Acceptance
These Terms of Use apply to the Neutrino Android app as distributed by the Neutrino project and to this website (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Open-source license
Neutrino's source code is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0). Nothing in these terms limits the rights the GPL-3.0 grants you. You may use, study, modify and share the software as that license permits. Where these terms and the GPL-3.0 conflict regarding the software itself, the GPL-3.0 prevails.
Not medical advice
Neutrino provides estimates for general informational and wellness purposes only. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Nutrition values generated from photos by AI models can be inaccurate, sometimes significantly. Always review them, and do not rely on Neutrino as the sole basis for medical decisions, including insulin or medication dosing. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice.
Your AI provider & API key
- Neutrino works with an API key that you obtain from a third-party AI provider (such as Google or OpenAI). You are responsible for complying with that provider's terms and usage policies.
- All charges for your API usage are billed by your provider to you. The Neutrino project is not responsible for those charges, including charges caused by retries, errors or model selection.
- Keep your key secure. If you believe your key has been exposed, revoke it with your provider and create a new one.
Third-party services
The Service interacts with services we do not control, including your AI provider, Android Health Connect, Google Health or Fitbit, Google Drive and app stores. Your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy or conduct. Neutrino is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, OpenAI or any other provider.
Your responsibilities
- Use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these terms.
- Only submit photos that you have the right to share with your AI provider.
- Do not use official Neutrino distribution channels to distribute malware, or misrepresent modified builds as official releases.
- You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to use the Service.
Backups
Backups are encrypted with a password only you know. If you lose that password, your backup cannot be recovered by anyone, including the Neutrino project. Nutrition records already saved to Health Connect are not affected. You are responsible for keeping your backup password and backup files safe.
No warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the extent permitted by applicable law. This is consistent with sections 15 and 16 of the GPL-3.0.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Neutrino project, its maintainers and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, health outcomes, costs of API usage, or other losses arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
Name & logo
The GPL-3.0 covers the code, not the Neutrino name and logo. You may refer to Neutrino by name, but please don't use the name or logo in a way that suggests an unofficial or modified build is the official app or is endorsed by the project. Forks are welcome under a different name and icon.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above, and the full history is visible in the project's public repository. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
